Something strange happened on the road to the future. We are living in the age of pretend progress.

 

This is a time when VC dollars chase convenience, not consequence. Billions have gone to copycats, dopamine apps, and enterprise wrappers. Meanwhile, the most important problems remain stuck: Battery chemistry still clings to lithium-ion, quantum physics hasn’t escaped the lab, fusion is always 10 years away, and our world is built from the same materials as decades ago.

 

 

For too long, we’ve mistaken iteration for innovation. We've funneled our collective brilliance into building frictionless commerce and infinite scrolls. The brightest minds of our time are optimizing click-through rates, fine-tuning subscription models, creating dopamine loops in social media feeds, and engineering engagement metrics. This isn't progress, it's stagnation disguised as sophistication. 

This isn’t to say that these advances aren’t significant.  But somewhere along the way, the bold, world-changing spirit of technological moonshots has been replaced by the safer, more immediately profitable path. We've become enamored with the low-risk high-reward model of startups built to flip and not to last, and with technologies designed to hold attention, not to expand human possibility.

 

 

To reignite meaningful progress, our thinking must evolve beyond the silos of narrow specialization. Many of today’s most urgent challenges do not fit neatly into a single academic discipline or professional domain. Solving them will require a fundamental shift toward more cross-disciplinary collaboration, where insights from physics, biology, engineering, design, and economics intersect in unexpected and transformative ways.

Historically, the most revolutionary breakthroughs have come not from deepening a single trench of knowledge, but from bridging multiple disciplines together. Progress demands that we stop treating disciplines like territories to defend, and start treating them like languages to translate with each offering a vital perspective on the bigger picture. In the future, the most valuable minds won’t just be deep experts; they’ll be translators, connectors, and integrators, people capable of navigating complexity by linking ideas that were never meant to meet.

We’re standing at the edge of a new frontier....not just of technology, but of identity. As AI, biotechnology, and automation advance, we’re not just building tools anymore, we’re reshaping what it means to be human. The questions we now face aren’t just technical, they’re existential. When machines can think, create, and even feel in ways that mimic us, we’re forced to ask: What remains uniquely human? What do we value, and why? And how do we ensure that progress enhances our humanity rather than erasing it?

We need a Design Renaissance. We need artists in the labs, engineers in philosophy classes, and poets at the whiteboard. Innovation must become more than just technical, it must be humanistic, moral, and imaginative. The future won’t be shaped solely by those who write code, but by those who can connect the code to culture, to ethics, to history, and to the soul.

If we are to build a future worth living in, we must recover our appetite for risk, rediscover the value of imagination, and reawaken the belief that great things are possible. It’s time to stop optimizing and start dreaming again, not just for faster apps or better ads, but for civilizations that last, for systems that decentralize, and for technologies that lift us into a fuller expression of what it means to be alive.

 

In a world increasingly dominated by algorithms, code, and systems logic, artists and designers are more essential than ever. Their value isn't just aesthetic, it's visionary. Where engineers build the possible, artists imagine the impossible. They bring emotional intelligence, cultural context, and a deep sensitivity to the human experience, qualities that are too often missing from today’s technological development. Designers shape how we interact with technology, how it feels, how it lives in our lives. Artists provoke us to question assumptions, to see from new angles, to imagine futures we didn’t know we needed.

 

As we move into an era defined by artificial intelligence, automation, and planetary-scale challenges, the role of the artist and designer must expand. They are not just decorators of innovation; they are architects of meaning. We need them in labs, on product teams, in policy rooms, and at the core of moonshot ventures, helping us build technology that resonates with the soul, not just the market. Physics has always been the foundation beneath every technological revolution, and it's barely moving. Funding agencies and tenure tracks have flattened the appetite for large risk. Foundational research into alternative theories, quantum gravity, materials under extreme pressure, or alternative computing architectures remains marginalized despite the breakthroughs we know are buried there.  But we are only scratching the surface. As we probe deeper into the nature of reality, from quantum mechanics to consciousness, we’re on the verge of breakthroughs that could once again redefine what’s possible. We believe that advancing physics is not an indulgence, it’s a necessity. That’s why we support the work others deem too early, too abstract, or too weird.

 

Materials Science is long overdue. High-performance polymers, self-healing composites, and adaptive meta-materials sit dormant in PDFs and conference posters. We need ventures that drag these technologies out of the lab and into the market. Materials science is becoming deeply interdisciplinary and is blending physics, chemistry, AI, and biology to create solutions that human imagination is only beginning to uncover. The convergence of these breakthroughs may lead to a world where the materials that we use are as dynamic and intelligent as the devices they power.

Clean energy / Storage is critical, and it’s still not solved. Solar and wind are not the answer, we need energy density orders of magnitude higher to meet the demands of a truly advanced civilization. That means solid-state storage, modular cold fusion, waste-to-energy systems, and hardware that performs under extreme conditions. Breakthroughs in energy storage are the key to unlocking a fully renewable, resilient, and decentralized energy grid. Lithium-ion was only the beginning. Emerging technologies like meta-materials, solid-state batteries, and even harmonics technologies promise safer, more efficient, and vastly more scalable storage solutions. We don’t want “green.” We want better and we want it at scale.

 

3D Printing Was Supposed to Change Everything. It Didn’t. We were promised a manufacturing revolution. Instead, we got plastic trinkets, overpriced prototyping tools, and a decade of diminishing expectations. 3D printing was meant to reinvent supply chains, democratize fabrication, and enable complexity at zero marginal cost. What we got was slow machines, fragile parts, and a few dental molds. Meanwhile, entire categories like high-temperature alloys, multi-material systems, and large-format printing all remain stuck in R&D hell or gated behind defense contracts.

We see 3D printing not as a novelty, but as a core capability for frontier-scale engineering and decentralization. Meaningful advancements will allow for the creation of distributed microfactories across the world for instant, on-demand manufacturing. This is fabrication for a world where speed, scale, and specificity matter more than mass production.

Aerospace - Launching things to space is expensive. But making things in space, that changes the equation entirely. The vacuum, microgravity, and thermal extremes of orbital environments open up new physics for fabrication. Crystals grow more purely. Alloys phase differently. Materials behave in ways we can't replicate on Earth. Space isn't just a destination, it's a production environment.

 

Think: next-gen semiconductors grown in orbit. Fiber optics with near-zero attenuation. Biological materials that form without sedimentation. We’re exploring how off-planet production can radically shift what’s possible in medicine, communications, energy, and computing.

We believe the first trillion-dollar industry in space won’t be space tourism, it will be space manufacturing.

All true invention begins with seeing the world differently. The most transformative ideas rarely come from following the crowd. Transformative ideas come from standing apart, questioning assumptions, and challenging what’s considered obvious. Being a contrarian isn’t about being difficult for the sake of it; it’s about having the courage to look at what everyone else sees and notice what no one else does. It’s about resisting the gravitational pull of consensus. It's about choosing instead to explore the edges, where risk lives and so does breakthrough.

The future belongs to those with the clarity to see past the noise and the conviction to act on an insight that others overlook. Almost every major innovation, from personal computing to electric cars to private space travel began as a contrarian bet. The inventor’s job is not to predict what’s trending, but to invent what’s missing. That means questioning the rules, the defaults, even the so-called “best practices.” It means trusting a vision that may seem absurd until it suddenly becomes inevitable. In a world saturated with incremental thinking, the rarest and most valuable resource is original thought.
